About INgene blog : First ever Indian Youth trend Insights blog

About INgene : First ever Indian Youth trend Insights blog:
This blog explores the detailed characteristics of Young-India and explains the finer & crucial differences they have with their global peers. The blog also establishes the theory of “adopted differentiation” (Copyright Kaustav SG,2007) and how the Indian & Inglodian youth are using this as a tool to differentiate themselves from the “aam aadmi” (mass population of India) to establish their new found identity.

The term youth refers to persons who are no longer children and not yet adults. Used colloquially, however the term generally refers to a broader, more ambiguous field of reference- from the physically adolescent to those in their late twenties.
Though superficially the youth all over the world exhibits similar [degree of] attitude, [traits of] interests & [deliverance of] opinion but a detailed observation reveals the finer differential characteristics which are crucial and often ignored while targeting this group as a valued consumer base. India is one of the youngest countries in the world with 60% of its population less then 24 years of age and is charted as the most prospective destination for the retail investment in the A. T. Kearney’s Global Retail Opportunity Report, 2007. With the first ever non-socialistic generation’s thriving aspiration & new found money power combined with steadily growing GDP, bubbling IT industry and increasing list of confident young entrepreneurs, the scenario appears very lucrative for the global and local retailers to target the “Youngisthan” (young-India). But, the secret remains in the understanding of the finer AIOs of this generation. The Indian youth segment roughly estimates close to 250million (between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five) and can be broadly divided (socio-psychologically) into three categories: the Bharatiyas, the Indians & the Inglodians (copyright Kaustav SG 2008). The Bharatiyas estimating 67% of the young population lives in the rural (R1, R2 to R4 SEC) areas with least influence of globalization, high traditional values. They are least economically privileged, most family oriented Bollywood influenced generation. The Indians constitute 31.5% (A, B,C, D & E SEC) and have moderate global influence. They are well aware of the global trends but rooted to the Indian family values, customs and ethos. The Inglodians are basically the creamy layers (A1,A SEC) and marginal (1.5% or roughly three million) in number though they are strongly growing (70% growth rate). Inglodians are affluent and consume most of the trendy & luxury items. They are internet savvy & the believers of global-village (a place where there is no difference between east & west, developing & developed countries etc.), highly influenced by the western music, food, fashion & culture yet Indian at heart.

what youth in India likes @ Music (view of Barkha, 19 years)

letz talk abt music....... m not here to preach you or for sum lecture n ol......m here to tell u wat i thnk abt music... Well when I think ‘What youngsters like’, I guess they mostly prefer rock, heavy metal and pop. When we look closely, we realize that all these songs have got very high tempo and high beats too. The fact that we youngsters react very fast has got a psychological side also. We lose our temper very fast, hmm, might be just to bring out our hidden emotions . Now I think they need a source n music is always our language of emotions. So no wonder it’s made to bring our temper down and in a way in these beats, we express all that……….In the same way if u ever notice while you are walking in a Levis store, they always play slow english songs which may be for 2 reasons-1 Youngsters are more into Hollywood, it’s a sort of fad for them.. 2 Slow songs make u calm down, they make u feel good about everything and u get into a nice mood and u shop more coz your mood swings affect even your shopping also. In fact some brands prefer rock music also because the young fleshy blood gets involved in music n in that funny and excited mood customers will shop a lot. I don’t know whether you guys noticed or not but music affects your life so much n even reflects your personality ……. I know may be on few points you guys might think that, m just a little gal, but plz guys try to notice the effect of your personality or surrounding on the kind of music you wanna tune to……..so open your eyes n ears ….. Because music is part of your personality……Dat was about music Ohk thatz it ……. It was kind of bookish thing, letz talk practically about your daily life. But still I got a question why u guys don’t listen to Hindi songs? I mean its kinda strange that we don’t listen to hindi songs though v r Indians.I will tell u an incident…….a fest was organized in my college, a young guy came on the stage, he was like correcting mistakes of people in English which he noticed in whole day, sort of pronunciation problem ……. In the end he said sorry guys I don’t know Hindi that much…….. nd the same thing happened in antakshri. People were like, ask English songs -we are not so much into bollywood……….Now I got a question why……? Why we do it, in fact in abroad you can find Punjabi music in pubs and all…… thats kind of strange…. It’s like common guys give me the answer…….. I know it would be like I am also a youngster why I am pointing finger on you…… so here is your answer I don’t believe in carpeting whole world, instead of that I will prefer covering ma feet…… today Hindi n Hindi songs are like shameful thing for us….. Tell me guys how many people got ultra modern parents like wen ur mom wore jeans n mini and your father talked about your girl friends…… I guess answer is literally 20% or 40%. Still our parents wake up in morning take bath n bow their head in front of god and worship….. Still when u borrow new car, we make that swastika sign on it …….. Am I correct…….. That it also very orthodox thing ……. But we never thought of keeping your parents out of your life I mean when you are 18 have you ever thought about leaving your parents n walking out alone on your own just because u feel ashamed because your mom wears sari and your dad don’t ask you “hey dude how is life how many lecture you bunked yesterday…….?” Answer is no never. Why don’t we think ……… so guys tell me how can you ignore your mother language or feel ashamed about it…… at least don’t b partial with songs. I accept that in studies you r under pressure coz u gotta find a job and people with good communication in English are alwz sought after…….. But no one asks about music ………. Now u don got any excuse….atlst give it a try yaar..... lisen sumhindi songs....... atlst step up.......start from music ........itz not bad ...... but itz jst dat u alrdy got dis in mind dat hindi music is bad n rsn is itz in hindi.......... but u knw what music don got ny language..... it got ur emotion datz it..........so give it a try.........

FAKOCONSCIOUSNESS is becoming a trend in Indian media

I asked my facebook friends (youth in India) if the idea of IDEA mobile(http://www.ideacellular.com/IDEA.portal) has any "goodwill" in it and whether they actually wants to save trees (or their azz!)...the immediate answer was obvious.
I am adding it here for you to have a look.
Fakoconscuousness is growing in India!
wish Idea mobile will actually DO something to save trees (and Aircel mobile will DO something to save tigers as well) other than printing posters, polluting the climate and bribing(blackberry) its users!

Politics and Indian youth - part IV

One more reason why educated youth in India hates politics, politicians and MPs :
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blog says Members of Parliament misusing diplomatic passports for work

Thu, Feb 18 02:55 PM
New Delhi, Feb.18 (ANI): An article appearing in the blog -- rajagopalan1951.blogspot.com - has said that Members of Parliament are allegedly misusing their diplomatic passports for work and business.

According to the article, the External Affairs Ministry has sought to put an end to such malpractice.

Diplomatic passports are issued to MPs going abroad on diplomatic assignment as also to their spouses accompanying them.

In a letter to Parliament, the Ministry has made it clear that these can be used for personal visits as well but not conducting any business or professional work as a lawyer, doctor or a businessperson.

"While diplomatic passports can be used for private visit like tourism or visiting friends and relatives, they are not meant to be used when traveling abroad for work and business," the letter said.

It also makes it clear that any MP having the diplomatic passport does not get a right to visit any country, no matter even if the ministry sends a visa note for their visit.

"While issuing visa notes addressed to foreign Missions, the purpose of visit is specified, viz. official or private. However, it remains the prerogative of the foreign missions to grant or decline visa to an applicant, regardless of the visa note from this Ministry," the letter added. (ANI)

trend vs. tradition @ India

How well balanced Indian youth are upon tradition and trends?

It’s a festival day, at least today go to the temple!!! A typical mother’s dialogue. This generation kids have no discipline!!! A 70 yr old grand dad’s regular saying!!! There are many more criticisms like this that the Indian youth today, gets to hear on a day to day basis. But does this mean that we do not believe in god?? Or is it true that we youngsters do not know or follow discipline??? It’s just that with time the portrayal of things have changed.

There are so many examples that can be quoted over this conversation. Let’s start of with temples as such. There is always complains that we are not visiting temples or enchanting slokas or even lighting a diya at home. Agreed we youth today do not go the temples regularly or sit enchant slokas. In fact I should say we go to temples very rarely. But let’s remind them, we do not live in the 12th century. We live in an era where technology is really sound. We have brought the temples down to our laptop screens and mobile screens, where they are more than idols. We don keep ourselves restricted to the temple timing. We believe in God, hence we also believe in staying connected with Him anytime and anywhere. And devotion towards God needn’t be expressed only through slokas and bhajans. True faith from the bottom of the heart is true devotion and it is the language that He best understands too. We do believe the positive vibes given by these slokas and bhajans and that’s why we have them downloaded in our computers, laptops and mobile and hear to them on pressing a button. We have not forgotten our Almighty but our approach towards him has changed and the display of him is also changed.

Not necessary that we have to sit in Madam M.S.Subbulakshmi’s or Ms. Sudha Raghunathan’s show to understand devotional discipline. Or why do even we have to do that when we have their voices recorded in our ipods. Devotional discipline doesn’t arise by sitting on a chair for three full hours, listening to someone sing. Hip-hop, rap, rock, etc. are in vogue. Like how carnatic music is our culture, hip-hop is the culture for another country, rock for another. We respect the culture of every country and make an effort to understand rather than calling them stupidity or non-sense. We don’t listen only to head-banging music but we also enjoy the melody of our country. To sum up this in simple terms, we are moving towards globalization.
Devotional discipline is a part of the mannerism and discipline. Today we youths of the country are blamed saying we are ill-mannered kids with no discipline. We do not say Namaste; we do not pay respect by touching the elderly foot. I am actually a live example for this. A couple of months back I had been to my native place along with my mother, aunt, brothers and sister. As soon as we got into the house, the first thing my mother and aunt did was paying respect to the elders at home by touching their feet. We were out meeting our cousins. My mother walks up to me and says, “You children of this age have no proper mannerism. Shouldn’t you touch the elders feet when you meet them?”. We did meet the elders and greet them; we do not think you got to say your ‘namaste’ by touching your feet. The picture beside teaches us what Namaste means. We believe in it, that’s why we greet them with the word Namaste, probably in different slangs for different languages. If this tried explaining to the elders then they call it an unnecessary argument. We know our tradition and culture but we live it our way and let us live it our way.

They do not talk about discipline only in terms of actions, but also in terms of eating!!!! Guys isn’t ‘gol gappa’ a country food??? Eating them is also a crime now. To be honest, there are a lot of good restaurants that make chaat items for us. But the most preferred is the road side ones, because they are much tastier. Gol gappas are in vogue today. In fact on an average any youth would be eating gol gappas once in every two days. For pizzas, on an average a youth would eat it thrice every month. To add fuel to the fire, there is a regular complain that we do not eat on time and we eat a lot of junk food. This is ‘not being disciplined’ in terms of many elders today. Why??? Only dhal, roti, sabjji and rice are not food. These are also food items. I wouldn’t call them junk food as they are the staple food for some parts of the country or of a different country. We are adopting ourselves to different cultures, i.e. we are walking towards globalization. At the same time we do know what are staple food is and do make it a point to eat them too for our body metabolism to function normally. But the situation should also be understood right?? We do not live in their era, where they either use to sit at home 24X7 or carry a bag full of food where ever they go. Today the world is very competitive and is moving very fast. We got to stay in pace with it. To stay n pace with it, we got to do certain things like this, which becomes a part of the discipline note for the this generation.

We know our tradition, that’s why the country still exists. What the previous generation called discipline belief or superstition; we try and understand it with science. What was accepted by them blindly yesterday, are being reasoned out by us today!!!! Probably that’s why we youth are neither here nor there. We try and follow our tradition, yet end up being a little trendy!!! It’s like we are the cats on the wall because the gray hair today do not understand what we go through!!! Wake up elders!!! Understand our feeling!!! Live an yet live!!!

Alternative youth movement in India gains momentum

The unsual and alternative socio-psychological youth movements in India are gaining momentum. The movements are non political and more expressive than holding a flag/ candle and chanting slogans…

INsightYoung'10- Trends in Tee shirts among the youth in India

This is the only RAW and REAL insight in socio-psychology of youth in India and their "attitudes" towards the tee...

1. Brand name has no significant impact while purchasing a tee...
2. Most pref. price segment is Rs.299 (boys) and Rs.599 (girls)...
3. The brands should focus on the "look and attitude" (graphics, text, color, material) of the tee rather than spending more money on advertising and promotion...
4. "Tee+denim" the essential staple in youth wardrobe

why I love MM - Watson D'costa (In'glo'dian, 22years)

MARILYN MANSON>>> Deckin out in black costumes, sinister make-up and Tees reading "666". Mom, I'm going to listen to Satan music. Can u pik me up at 11o' clock?>>> "Goddam">>> Mother- f#@*>>> Sex is dead>>> Spit, cut, rub>>> Grass n LSd>> U'd love it all for the staged evil.

An American by birth, Anti- Christ by choice. The band's radiation is reflective from the names, literally. The first names of female rockstars and the last names, of serial murderers. Manson's act is a calculated attempt to take the two things mothers always tell children it ain't polite to talk about- religion and sex- and be as rude about them as possible. Ripping up a bible is a frequent stage trick. On stage Marilyn Manson looks like a long pale worm. He can't sing or write song lyrics, but is nonetheless enjoying a run as one of the hottest rockstars. Manson is a symbol of American pop culture's continued race toward depravity. His latest album titled Anti- Christ Superstar and his lyrics celebrate things like suicide, destruction, and disease. The iconography of his shows- the self- laceration, the back braces, and bizarre crutches, etc-- is a celebration of pain and perversity.
Why do i and a section of the country likes MM?!?!? Not jus for whats above. Niceness is the one value no one dares transgress. Exceptionally for Manson though. What Manson is about on a deeper level is the culture's premiere value; Hype. Manson denies promoting any values whatsoever; he's just for people being themselves. Manson mind's his own business. His fans instinctively say the same thing, fallin back on a tolerance defense that inevitably turns common sense on its head. MM decides to make music at times when he couldn hav had more obstacles. He walked on stage many times after receiving death threats. MM cannot live without doing what he wanted to do. So at the same time, he's willin to die for it. MM is an idealistic artist who wants to spend his time putting ideas into the world, which ends up fuckin him over. He's one OPTIMISTIC life on the planet.
Deliver what you want and how u want it. MM always just ends up violent, so extreme that he's got 300 or more scars all over him on him due to destroying equipments. Me, u, n evryone gets one step closer to the grave evry single day. MM actuated to me the fact about the sweetness and inevitablity of it. Will power. MM digs up bones, does drugs, and sleeps at the basement of a rat infested appartment. Manson has deep respect fro ppl who're bein a part of his work. Thats a very vital stuff that not most of the population can assert possessing.
Man's greatest fear is chaos. The first few people on earth needed no books, movies, games or music to inspire cold blooded murder. The day that Cain bashed his brother Abel's brain in, the only motivation he needed was his own human disposition to violence. We have all the examples around. Isn't killing just killing, regardless if its in Vietnam, Iran, Kargil, or nextdoor? Why do we justify one, just because it seems to be for the right reasons? Should there ever be a right reason? We applaud the creation of a bomb whose soul purpose is to destroy all of mankind and we grow up watching people's brains splaterred all over the floor. Unnoticedly, MM started his band as a criticism of these very issues of despair and hypocrisy. " I wasn afraid of dying as much as I was really afraid of getting my hair cut", says MM of his life at Ohio. Who's bad??
Deep down, most adults hate people who go against the grain. People tend to associate anyone who behaves differently with illegal and immoral activity. "I realized the most important thing for me to do is to JUsT BE ME", says Manson. All his deeds, are his. But to do wut u wanna c happening, requires havin the rightest mind with the key ingredients; style, view, n balls. Manson showed me how.
Wanna live your days your way, consider considering MARILYN MANSON. He's one real time inspiration for me. Wish he gets to Evan to straighten things better.

Cheers,
Watson.

"bike bites @ 2009 >>2010" by Watson D'costa

All barriers are meant to be broken, and this is most apt in the world of biking. India is being proven to be one of the most potential market for motorbikes. Earlier, the sole purpose of a motorbike was to commute. BUT NO MORE. Biking has trickled up to gr8 heights. Times of goin with the wind have literally transformed to goin against it. So much that the break even point of a bike n car price has been witnessed this year( r15 & the nano, wid the ninja movin further ahead). The speedo needle has found its land more than the fuel ind. needle in India. Bliss. Biking enthusiasm has accelerated to distances in the country wher all the big players hav found their fresh market, from kawasaki to the Harley.
Though we pay down double price for an import ride, the fascination for the techs doesn really make most misfire n switch to the normal Indian Stock bikes. Indian had not been cynical with their rides, but now are. The machine i stand next to, is my id. So is anyone else's. Starting from the body, the aerodynamic physique, the color, the engine, the valves, the filters, the exhausts, the wheels n every minute thing that the customers had cared a zilch about, have begun to being upgraded. A bike has become a creation, rather than just production.
I find myself very much closer into the roar of the racing spirit when i had ridden the new KAWASAKI NINJA 250R. Its a class of itself and makes u feel a lil off track just like how u feel drivin an astra compared to other four wheel drives. Right way to end 2009. At idle, she's just a no one. But one red-line twist took me one step ahead of my whole riding experience. Its got a cetain something to it. Looks. Its just about perfect. The geometry of lines and the composition of a theme all over the bike, makes it look like one real NINJA indeed. Analog metres, a lil unpreferable for me. Its got pretty good and desirable upgrades like the parallel twin, 32.5 bhp(highest on indian roads), f-i system, DOHC 4-valve cylinder, 6-speed gear box(following GSR and R15), tubeless wheels, topping a 160 kph. But the greenery's hit by the duty structure of the country, which brings its ex-showroom price close to 3 lakhs. But u would definitely feel the worth of every single buck you pay down for the ride coz the rush of the throttle is not somethin you can tax on.
In spite of kick-ass riding experiences, the market has been constricted to a single genre or rides. In 2010, i'd be excited to see off traffic dirt busters adn ATV'S on Indian roads, which would grace up Indian biking vibe to a much greater level. No for electric bikes definitely. I am also really expecting the intrusion of real time V-twins in more motorcycles, with more air intakes and exhaust, improved combustion, efficiency, power and performance. Its an interesting, restless and excited market for biking in India. Awaiting more hyperactive and brutally gorgeous rides into the country. Feels more in da house.

Cheers

politics and youth in India

In continuation with the earlier discussions about politics, politicians and youth in India, I found an interesting list of 10 budding young political leaders in India published by Yahoo at "year in review"! As argued earlier in this blog, 99% of them are the son/ daughter of political leaders...the business of corruption, suppression and legacy of autocracy in the veil of democracy goes on...

The list can be seen at: http://in.yearinreview.yahoo.com/2009/inyoungpoliticians#youngpoliticians

Politics, System, Bureaucracy and youth in India

In my earlier posts, as I was talking about "Khadi", "Khaki" and fuming disguises about the "Indian laws, bureaucratic systems" among youth in India, this "funny" verdict came (I can't add any other adjective than calling it "funny"...huh) as a slap in my face.
The 14 year old teenager was molested (and committed suicide incidentally) by an ex-DGP (Diector General of Police)...the family fought 19years (can you believe it!) in the court and finally the "poor man"( yes, that what Mr. Ram Jethmalani explained him in an interview at NDTV 24X7) got just 6 months jail and Rs.1000 fine (US$22)! What an efficient uncorrupted system!!
The family went through hell for 19 years...and we call this country as the largest democratic country in the world!

Ruchika molestation: 6 months jail, Rs 1,000 fine for ex-DGP
Aneesha Sareen Posted online: Tuesday , Dec 22, 2009 at 0849 hrs

Chandigarh : Nineteen years after he allegedly molested a teenaged girl who later committed suicide, former Haryana Director General of Police S P S Rathore was today sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 for the crime.
Special CBI Magistrate J S Sidhu convicted Rathore of molesting 14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra. Rathore got bail immediately after the order was pronounced and was told to furnish bail bonds of Rs 10,000. His wife and defence counsel, Abha Rathore, stood surety for bail.

In August 1990, Ruchika, a budding tennis player, was allegedly molested by Rathore, then an IG and president of the Haryana Lawn Tennis Association, at his office-cum-residence — Ruchika’s friend and classmate Aradhana was eyewitness to the incident. Traumatised by the incident and subsequent harassment of her family, Ruchika committed suicide by poisoning herself in 1993.

While pronouncing the verdict, the magistrate relied on Aradhana’s statement in court. Deposing as prime prosecution witness, Aradhana, who is now married and settled in Australia, told the court that she had seen Rathore forcibly holding and molesting Ruchika.

“The allegations against the former senior police officer are of moral turpitude which are serious in nature and are particularly against a minor girl. Therefore, the prayer for probation in the case by the accused has been declined,” the magistrate said.

Rathore had urged the court to take a lenient view as he was old and had undergone a valve surgery recently. He said he was under great mental stress owing to media reporting of the incident.

“I have great faith in the judicial system. I will file an appeal ... I am relieved today, thanks to my lovely wife who stood by me, fought the case and gave a strong defence,” Rathore, who retired as DGP, told reporters.

Investigation into the case was handed over to the CBI in 1998. Ruchika’s family moved out of Chandigarh. They alleged they were being harassed by the police in retaliation for the case against Rathore.

Anand and Madhu Parkash, parents of Ruchika’s friend Aradhana, had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1997, seeking a probe into the incident after a police report had stated that prima facie there was a case against Rathore. A year later, the case was transferred to the CBI special magistrate.

“I am elated that Rathore has been awarded six months of RI, but at the same time I am sad it took so long to decide on the matter. Had the verdict against Rathore been pronounced earlier, I think Ruchika would not have committed suicide,” Madhu Parkash told reporters.

Her husband Anand Parkash, a retired government employee, said, “I think the quantum of punishment is less... It is not the end of the trial. We will drag to court all police officers and bureaucrats who tried their best to save Rathore. Despite the allegations against him, he was promoted twice and retired as DGP. Is this how the system deals with an accused?”.

Daughter Aradhana said it was Ruchika’s wish that a case be lodged against Rathore. “My mother and father were ready to take up this case. Ruchika’s family too was very supportive, knowing that they would be subjected to harassment.”

I was treated like a dog: Ruchika's brother to court
Fri, Dec 25 05:25 AM

Narrating the inhuman treatment meted out to him by the Haryana Police at the behest of S P S Rathore, Ruchika Girhotra's brother, Ashu, had filed an affidavit in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 3, 2001. Ashu was implicated and picked up for six false cases of auto theft — all the charges later fell flat in court.

"Hell was let loose on me. I was treated like a dog. I was slapped, given fist blows and had to further undergo more inhuman torture which I cannot explain in this affidavit. I was not given any food or water to drink for various days. Whenever I used to ask for a glass of water, the police officials used to give me filthy abuses," he said in his affidavit.

Saying that he tried to console Ruchika, who was suffering from depression, he added: "Life was made more miserable for the entire family. Ruchika was literally living under house arrest. As and when Ruchika used to come out of our residence, some mischievous people, who were deployed at the instance of Rathore, used to pass lewd remarks at her. Rathore also made it a point to see that Ruchika did not continue her studies."

The affidavit further states: "I was brutally beaten up by the CIA staff, Panchkula. Rathore was personally supervising the interrogation and directed the investigating officer to beat me till I give up. I was so terrorised that I could not even disclose this to the magistrate. I and my family members have been reeling under tremendous pressure. I was picked up during Diwali. I never thought that Diwali of 1993 would be the most gloomy phase of life wherein I would have to undergo such inhuman treatment. I was beaten up so mercilessly that I could not even walk properly."

Ashu was handcuffed and paraded in the neighbourhood. The "police officers were abusing my sister and father. I was like an animal who was in a cage and was trying to get myself free to save the honour of my family. My father begged the police to be afraid of God and not to inflict this inhuman torture on the family. After a few days, I was told in custody that Ruchika had committed suicide. I was picked up by the police on October 23, 1993 and was released only on December 23, 1993, after the death of my sister," Ashu had informed the High Court.

Against all odds- Youth in India

INgene salutes these young Indians for what they have done or achieved against all the odds.
Believe me, these are just few who are being thankfully identified by the media. We have millions like this wonderful young Indians for whom the nation is still thriving towards excellence instead of all corruption, poverty and malpractices.

Politics and the youth of India

The political scenario of India is changing? God knows (if at all he has any idea of corruption level among Indian politicians)! But yes, some micro changes can be seen as more and more young bloods are coming in to head and inspire larger political parties in India. The recent example can be the announcement of Nitin Gadkari (52) as the highest parliamentary leader of BJP. This can be seen as the struggle for survival to protect their face (and back). It is saturated with clot bloods and grey hairs (some of them even became fossils) and loosing ground very fast due to their ego-clashes and back dated thoughts. They also wanted somebody to portray in comparison with blue blooded prince charming Mr. Rahul Gandhi (who carries two bricks in white kurta to show off that he is among the grass roots of India!)… lets hope this battle of survival evolves into the betterment of India’s political scenario with some fresh thoughts and works other than eating up money and building self statues in parks…
Though I don’t think this will lead to any major changes in “political business” / “legacy of the throne scenario” where siblings are entitled to the chair (you know, family money should remain in family) in the name of “introducing young bloods” (ie. Sachin Pilot son of Rajesh Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia son of Madhav Rao Scindia, M. K. Stalin son of Karunanidhi, Priya Dutt daughter of Sunil Dutt etc.)

Nitin Gadkari: From a humble student leader to BJP chief
Sat, Dec 19 04:25 PM

It has been a long journey for 52-year-old Nitin Gadkari from a humble student leader to the youngest-ever President of the BJP.
Gadkari who was appointed by the party's Parliamentary Board to the top post today, is a disciplined soldier of RSS and will have the distinction of becoming the first BJP chief from Maharashtra. It is a coincidence that he hails from Nagpur, the headquarters of the RSS -- which has always been the guiding force for the main opposition party. Gadkari, who has replaced Rajnath Singh, has been entrusted with the responsibility at a time when Congress is playing the Rahul Gandhi card, projecting the young leader as the future Prime Minister and BJP is facing serious challenges on the leadership front. The BJP leader, who was till now the chief of Maharashtra BJP, proved his mettle as an effective minister in the Shiv Sena-BJP government in the state ten years back.
Though an 'outsider' in Delhi circles, he is no babe in the woods and is known in the BJP as a clear thinker having a forward-looking vision and an organiser who knows how to take the party along.
Gadkari has maintained his close proximity with the RSS leadership right from the days of the then RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras and later with Rajju Bhaiyya, K C Sudarshan and the current head of the organisation Mohan Bhagwat. In fact, the talk in BJP circles is that Gadkari became the hot favourite for the top job following Bhagwat's search for a new leader to turn the party around.

Aruna is fine(!) but are we?

If anybody wonders why young generation of India doesn’t believe in the law and order system of the biggest democracy of world then we can refer the case of Aruna.
Her assaulter happily escaped the rape charge!
Believe me, this is just a fragment of the whole scenario…millions are still pleading for justice while the system takes its own sweet time…the burning case is the Ajmal Kasab who was caught red handed in 26/11 Mumbai attack with tons of evidences and eye witnesses, but still we are feeding him in all luxury and keeping him alive in good health. I am sure this case will run for another 5 years before the human rights kitty party grey hairs and so called intellects jump and shout for his release on the ethical ground of his little son / brother or ill father…

“Aruna is fine”
Rahi Gaikwad

Mumbai: The spirit that Aruna Shanbaug was known for as a young nurse seems to be alive still, even as she leads the life of an invalid in a civic hospital ward in Mumbai.
“She eats well; she is fine,” says a lady staff, who feeds her. “She has milk and bread in the morning, or an egg. It’s rice in the afternoon and rice for lunch. When she is hungry, she communicates her demand for food.
“How do you expect us to stop feeding her? She is a human being after all. Do you want us to kill her soul?” asks the cleaning staff at the hospital.
A mercy killing petition recently filed by Ms. Shanbaug thorough a friend Pinki Virani in the Supreme Court, however, appeals that the “force feeding” be stopped. The reason: her right to live with dignity. Sixty-one-year-old Shanbaug cannot move. She is bed-ridden. A brutal assault 36 years ago left her paralysed for life.
At 25, Ms. Shanbaug was cruelly assaulted by Sohanlal Bhartha Walmiki, a sweeper in the hospital where she was working as staff nurse.
He tried to strangle her with a dog chain. This cut off oxygen supply to her brain, causing her to lose physical and mental faculties. Walmiki was convicted of robbery and attempt to murder. He escaped the rape charge.

Ever since the incident in 1973, a hospital room has been Ms. Shanbaug’s oyster. She was set to get married at the time. Shunned by her immediate family and forgotten by the world, she came under the care of the hospital staff who have looked after her all these years.
“Why does anyone ask about her now? For 36 years no one came for her,” says the cleaner. “I have been working here for 22 years and I have never seen anyone visiting her. Her family abandoned her. As a municipal employee, we care for her. Otherwise she has just been left in the lurch.” She says Ms. Shanbaug’s fingers have curved over time.
Her room is locked and male staff is reportedly not allowed inside.
Ms. Shanbaug is said to have been a promising professional with a zest for life. At one stroke, this confident life was snuffed out.
As a staff nurse says: “We have hidden her underneath the ground.”

there was an interesting discussion in yahoo ask on " Why not hang ajmal Kasav"...and few replies were :

"We all know that is not possible in the present set of systems.

But if I am allowed to have my way, I would not hang Ajmal Kasab, but kill his all kiths and kins in front of him after due torture. That would be sufficint puniishment for him for killing innocents to realise the agony the relatives of innocent victims have under gone. And sufficient punishment for having such a family member amongst them.

Killing Kasab is a very small punishment. He shall be tortured to such an extent that he himself would demand for an easy death.

Sorry, but my anguish has no other remedy."
- Panchal J

"Come on. How can we hang him. What about the Congress Vote Bank. We have Afjal Guru who has been awarded death sentence by the highest court of the land and is still kicking around. Don't be surprised if he is let off. If there was political will we Ajmal would have been history by now."
- myboloon

"Person who has been been sentence for death (afzal guru) is still alive than what's the hurry for Kasab... let him die with his natural death in indian imprisonment with a lavish life style n first class treatment."
-Pawan J
